When you meet Marie-Laure Ammons, you know immediately you’re in for a serious visit. Of modest build and with a wiry frame, she leans in close when she speaks, asking just as many questions as you ask of her. There’s no zoning out allowed here, as her tensile, piercing energy reverberates strongly. Passion is a word thrown around often in the wine world. Ammons has it in spades.
Ammons's Nid Tissé wine label includes three single-vineyard Chardonnays, from Russian River Valley’s Bacigalupi vineyard, Carneros’ Hyde Vineyards and, about 400 miles south, Sta. Rita Hills’ Bentrock vineyard in Santa Barbara County. And there's a Pinot Noir from Sta. Rita Hills’ Radian Vineyard. Needless to say, Calistoga-based Ammons is constantly on the go. But she took time to taste recent vintages of Nid Tissé Pinot Noir with Wine Spectator senior editor James Molesworth. Read his tasting notes!
