When looking for good value in red wines, Tuscany is one of the best places to start. With a wide range of terroirs, from coastal Tuscany to the higher elevation vineyards in Chianti Classico, there is so much to explore—all without overspending. Today’s Tasting Highlights features a selection of red wines from Tuscany, all rated 88 points or more and priced under $40.

The grape ripens late and thrives in marl, limestone and sandstone soils, resulting in wines that boast cherry, plum and currant flavors alongside a signature spicy, earth quality. With one exception—Fattoria di Basciano’s Toscana—all wines in this lineup include Sangiovese, either solo or within a blend.
